12-yr-old St John’s student hit by own school bus has broken ribs

12-year-old Harpreet Singh,the student of St John’s High School,Sector 26,who was on Friday hit by his own school bus,is under 48-hours observation in the ICU of the Advanced Paediatrics Centre,PGIMER.

According to doctors,there are blunt trauma injuries,as he has broken ribs and other severe injures.

“On Friday,the doctors were saying that he will be operated upon,as his liver and kidney are damaged. But today they are saying that they will treat him first with medications and if required then they will operate upon him. He is responding well to medicines and his condition is improving. He is under observation for 48 hours,” said Paramjeet Kaur,Harpreet’s mother.

She said that Harpreet was very happy before leaving for school on Friday,as it was the last day before summer vacations. He said that he will come early from the school,but then this accident happened.

His mother further said,“The school has recently recruited the driver and it was his first day. The school bus hit my son and dragged him along. When passers-by raised the alarm,he applied the brakes,but the tyre ran over his upper body.”

The school authorities,principal and other school staff members have paid a visit at the hospital. “The principal visited us on Friday and assured us the full support,but did not say anything about what actions the school will take against the driver.”

Harpreet is the youngest in the family and has two elder sisters. His mother works as a helper at Strawberry School and his father works as a driver in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
