Representatives spoke on Chandigarh
An eleven-member delegation of city residents led by coordinator of NGO Yuvsatta Pramod Sharma returned from Sri Lanka,forging new ties with people from different walks of life in important towns of Sri Lanka .
During their stay the participants were able to meet and stay with local people. The school and college going youngsters,advocates,social activist,cultural groups,religious and political people also interacted with the delegation during their visit to Parliament.
Besides promoting their next annual International Youth Peace Festival of Yuvsatta in 2011,in which they intend to invite youngsters from around 50 countries of the world,representatives of Yuvsatta were also able to talk about Chandigarh.
At Colombo ,in a meeting with delegates,the founder of ‘Sarvodaya’,a Gandhian organizations,Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne,recipient of Gandhi Peace Prize shared his anguish over difficult Indian visa rules for people of Sri Lankan origin.
He said that while Indians get tourist visa within no time of their arrival in Sri Lanka ,the visa rules are stringent for Sri Lankan people.
As a reciprocal gesture Government of India should ensure at the earliest that people of Sri Lanka get visa on arrival in India.
To promote educational exchange programmes,people to people communication,and building new leadership Yuvsatta along with their international partner Sri Lanka United Nations Friendship Organization also launched a Chandigarh-Sri Lanka Forum.
