Japan’s Fuji Soft Group proposes to set up IT ‘centre of excellence’ in Odisha

In a major boost to Odisha’s information technology sector, Japanese giant Fuji Soft Group has proposed to open a “centre of excellence” in the state capital, government officials said.

The company made the proposal during a meeting with the Odisha delegation that went to Japan to discuss business opportunities in IT, IT-enabled service, skilling, logistics and shipping in the state.

“Fuji Soft Group’s proposal to open the centre of excellence will provide the required fillip to the already burgeoning field Odisha,” said an official part of the delegation.

In the shipping and logistics sector, Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha has evinced interest to set up dedicated shipping lines starting from the port-of-call Paradip, Gopalpur, Dhamra to transport green ammonia to the South East Asian countries up to Japan, said a statement issued by the government.

The company has evinced interest after the government delegation briefed it about the existing port infrastructure in the state and the future development prospects.

Another Japanese company, Sumitomo Corporation, has also expressed interest to create tankage and storage facilities for the green hydrogen and green ammonia sector. They are planning to set up the unit at the Gopalpur special economic zone in Ganjam.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who led the delegation to Japan, has directed officials to create a roadmap for all these investments and create timelines to achieve a quick turnaround for all the proposals received.

NITKAL (Nihon-UTKAL) has teamed up with Odisha University of Technology and Research to set up a skill development centre in the state to cater to the huge demand for trained workforce in Japan.

NITKAL (Nihon-UTKAL) also continues its dialogue with the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar, for establishing a dedicated Japan-centric centre for skill development.
