Rape accused Bengaluru BJP MLA RR Munirathna walks out of prison
The Special Court for MP/MLAs mandated that Munirathna appear before investigators as required and remain within the court's jurisdiction unless he obtains prior permission.

Karnataka BJP MLA RR Munirathna walked out of the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru on Wednesday after remaining incarcerated for a month. The prison authorities initiated the release of the RR Nagar MLA following a court order on Monday in connection with a rape case filed by a 40-year-old woman.
The MLA faces charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including rape, sexual harassment, voyeurism, criminal intimidation, extortion, promoting enmity, and acts insulting a woman’s modesty, as well as sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Earlier, Munirathna secured bail in the atrocity case and anticipatory bail in the criminal intimidation case.
The Special Court for MP/MLAs mandated that Munirathna appear before investigators as required and remain within the court’s jurisdiction unless he obtains prior permission. Additionally, the MLA was instructed not to threaten witnesses or tamper with evidence.
Munirathna had been remanded in judicial custody following his interrogation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing three cases against him — two filed at the Vyalikaval police station in Bengaluru and one at the Kaggalipura police station in Ramanagara.
