(Representational Photo)Train services on Bengaluru Metro’s Purple Line were briefly disrupted for two hours Wednesday morning after a tree fell on the track between Swami Vivekananda Road and Indiranagar stations. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) reported that from 6.15 AM, train operations were limited to two segments: Indiranagar to Challaghatta and Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield.
The BMRCL stated that the tree had been successfully cleared, and full services along the Purple Line were restored at 8:05 AM, resuming normal operations across the line.
After the tree fell, a BMRCL maintenance team was immediately deployed to the site to remove the tree, ensuring the restoration of full services. In the interim, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) arranged feeder bus services between M G Road and Baiyappanahalli for commuters affected by the disruption.
In June 2024, Metro services on the Purple Line were similarly disrupted when a tree branch fell on the tracks just after Trinity Station towards MG Road. Meanwhile, the meteorological department sounded an orange alert for Bengaluru, predicting rainfall for the next three or four days in view of a depression in the Bay of Bengal. On Tuesday, 37 mm of rainfall in 24 hours was recorded in Bengaluru, with some parts recording nearly 67 mm of rainfall.
The heavy rain led to water entering homes in 142 areas. There were 33 reports of trees collapsing and several incidents of branches falling. Yelahanka, West Bengaluru, and East Bengaluru received the highest rainfall, while moderate rains were recorded in Mahadevapura, RR Nagar, Bommanahalli, and Dasarahalli.
