Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday levelled grave allegations against the Karnataka government, claiming that “hundreds of crores of black money” was being sent from the state to different parts of the country to fund the Congress’s poll campaign. He also contended that a “black market of water tankers” was operating in Bengaluru amid the water crisis faced by the city.
“India’s IT hub Bengaluru is battling a severe water crisis. There is a black market of water tankers operating in the city. Amid all this, for the Congress party to fight elections, hundreds of crores of black money is being sent from Karnataka to different parts of the country,” Modi said at the rally in Mysuru.

This was the first rally where PM Modi shared the stage with BJP’s coalition partner in Karnataka, the JD(S). The rally was held to seek support for four NDA candidates from the old-Mysore region – considered the heartland of the Vokkaliga community. Other prominent leaders like former PM and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda, BJP Parliamentary Board member B S Yediyurappa, and JD(S) state president and former CM H D Kumaraswamy, also attended the rally.
Modi recalled an incident at a Congress rally held at Kalaburagi recently where Congress MLA Laxman Savadi had sought permission to raise ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogans. “Earlier, they opposed Vande Mataram. Now, there is a reluctance to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” Modi said, calling it a sign of the end of the Congress.
The comments made by Congress MP D K Suresh about a ‘separate country for South’ also found mention in the speech. Calling the Congress the “Sultan of Tukde Tukde Gang”, Modi said, “The people of the state are proof that Congress rewards people who speak against the country by giving them tickets to contest polls.”
He alleged that there was an “open game of appeasement” at play in Karnataka due to which attempts were being made “to stop religious celebrations” and “religious flags are brought down”. “INDI alliance wants to end Sanatan. It wants to destroy the Shakti of Hindu religion,” the PM said.
In his address, Modi also spoke about the BJP’s manifesto for 2024 polls – the “Sankalp Patra” – and heaped praise on Deve Gowda, calling him the “senior-most politician” in the country.
