‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogan row: Action will be taken if BJP allegations proven true, says Siddaramaiah

BJP has alleged that Congress supporters raised ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans after their candidate Syed Nasir Hussain won in the Rajya Sabha polls. Hussain said some of his followers had chanted ‘Nasir Saab Zindabad’.

As the BJP staged a protest outside the Karnataka Assembly on Wednesday alleging that Congress supporters had raised ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans on Tuesday after their candidate Syed Nasir Hussain’s victory in the Rajya Sabha polls, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said “strict action will be taken” if the allegations were proven true.

Siddaramaiah’s statement came hours after the Bengaluru city police registered a suo motu case on Tuesday night over the alleged incident even as the BJP filed a formal complaint at the Vidhana Soudha police station.

“The police have collected the video footage from the TV channels which have telecast [the incident]. It has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further investigation,” state Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Wednesday

Siddaramaiah said that if the FSL report proved that such a slogan was raised, action would be taken. “There is no question of protecting those who raised slogans in favour of Pakistan,” Siddaramaiah said while speaking to the media at Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday. “Strict action will be taken against whoever shouted slogans against the nation,” he added.

Hussain also denied the BJP’s allegations and said some of his followers had raised “Nasir Saab Zindabad” slogans. “I was heading home and received a call from a media house that someone raised such a slogan. I was in the middle of those people and never heard any such slogan. Let the police investigate the matter,” he said.
