Karnataka is not averse to investment from the Adani Group, Industries and Infrastructure minister M B Patil said Tuesday.

He was responding to questions on assurances made by the Adani Group during the Invest Karnataka summit held in November 2022. The group had pledged investment to the tune of Rs one lakh crore in Karnataka over the next seven years.

“We will get clarity on the extent of investments (assured in the 2022 summit) that will materialise in the next meeting (of the department). When any industrialist comes to set up an industry, we will consider their proposals. They (Adani Group) have not promised anything. We will give them time to come up with proposals,” he said.

The Adani Group had come under fire from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the campaigns for the Karnataka Assembly election and the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Gandhi had accused the Narendra Modi-led Union government of “crony capitalism” and had maintained that while he is not against corporates, he is against monopolies.

Patil also said that the state government is considering running airports in the state along the lines of Maharashtra. The neighbouring state, he said, has set up a subsidiary to operate airports which is currently running the Shirdi Airport.

While the state government spends money to set up airports, they are then handed over to the Airport Authority of India. “It will benefit the state if we construct airports and maintain them,” Patil said, noting that the state government had spent Rs 1,000 crore for the Kalaburagi airport.

Among the airports the state government is considering to run are Shivamogga, Hassan and Vijayapura.
