Murder accused Darshan Thoogudeepa wants home-cooked food in prison, moves Karnataka HC
The bench subsequently issued a notice for Darshan's counsel to submit a collection of all necessary regulations as well as instances in which similar requests had been accepted in the past.

Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, has filed a petition before the Karnataka High Court for the provision of home cooked food and other amenities by his family. The matter was heard on Wednesday by a bench consisting of Justice S R Krishna Kumar.
The prayer of the petition in question requested home cooked food from his family, along with cutlery, bedding and books, citing the fact that he had fallen ill and lost weight on account of the food served in prison.
Arguments were made on the ground that the same was allowed under the Karnataka Prisons Act, subject to examination and any rules that may be set by the Inspector General.
The petition was opposed by the government counsel, who stated that there is no regulation to allow this in case of a murder accused. It was also pointed out that instead of approaching the High Court, the Inspector General of Prisons followed by the relevant trial court should have been approached.
The bench subsequently issued a notice for Darshan’s counsel to submit a collection of all necessary regulations as well as instances in which similar requests had been accepted in the past.
Darshan Thoogudeepa was arrested along with his Pavithra Gowda and 11 others on June 11 over the murder of Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga. The four other accused people were arrested later.
