Man jumps before approaching Metro train at Bengaluru’s Jananabharathi station, promptly rescued by BMRCL staff
Metro services on Bengaluru Metro’s Purple Line were briefly disrupted, with trains running in a short loop between Mysuru Road and Jnanabharathi stations from 2.13 pm to 2.30 pm.

A 30-year-old man, identified as Siddarth from Bihar, attempted to jump onto the tracks at the Jnanabharathi Metro Station in Bengaluru on Tuesday at 2.13 pm when a train was approaching. Acting swiftly, the station controller and their team immediately activated the Emergency Trip System (ETS) to halt the train and rescued the man.
According to a Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) spokesperson, security officer Rashmi sprung into action and activated the ETS, cutting the power off and bringing the train to a halt. The man fell between the two tracks and was swiftly rescued by the alert security personnel, thus thwarting his suicide attempt in time.
Jnanabharati police said Siddharth is reeling under severe financial distress. He has a significant amount of debt and is struggling to clear them. Siddarth lives with his wife in Kengeri, the police said.
According to the BMRCL, Siddarth did not sustain any injuries. Meanwhile, Metro services on the Purple Line were briefly disrupted, with trains running in a short loop between Mysuru Road and Jnanabharathi stations from 2.13 pm to 2.30 pm. A BMRCL official informed that the situation was handled efficiently and normalcy was restored in a timely manner.
This is the third such incident this year reported from across Metro stations in Bengaluru. Earlier in March, 19-year-old law student Dhruv Thakkar died by suicide at the Attigupe Metro station. In August this year, a 57-year-old man, Naveen Kumar Arora, died by suicide at the Doddakallasandra station.
Tuesday’s incident once against has sparked discussions on installing Platform Screen Doors (PSD) at all the 61 Metro stations in Bengaluru to prevent further suicide attempts. However, the BMRCL argues that installing PSDs across all stations during the operating hours would be challenging and would logistically incur a lot of cost.
A BMRCL spokesperson said security will be beefed up across all the stations to ensure that all suicide attempts are thwarted in the coming days.
