The deceased was identified as Vijay Murthy alias Ponni Kanna Vijay, a resident of JJ Nagar, who was in jail on attempt to murder charges and was released on bail on Friday.
The police arrested Deepu, 28, a resident of Old Guddadahalli of Mysore Road, and Arun, 27, a resident of Srirampura, for Vijay’s murder. Incidentally, Arun and Vijay were distant relatives.
According to the police, the two suspects called Vijay late Saturday evening near a lane in Janatha Colony and quarrelled with him. The arguments heated, and they allegedly stabbed Vijay to death. The JJ Nagar police visited the spot, registered a case of murder and launched a probe.
Police sources said the two suspects were found hiding in a forest patch in RR Nagar on Sunday. When they attempted to flee, the police shot them in the leg after they did not pay heed to warning shots and attacked the police personnel. They were admitted to a hospital, and arrest procedures were initiated, police sources said.
Investigations revealed that Vijay was jailed after he had stabbed Arun, the key suspect, during a religious procession in Kalasipalya police limits three months ago. Vijay was arrested and lodged in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prisons. However, Arun and his associate were waiting for revenge. The two called Vijay in the guise of reaching a compromise, the police said.
A police officer said Vijay had five criminal cases against him, which included attempt to murder and dacoity cases. Arun was involved in three cases, including murder and an attempt to murder. Deepu was involved in two criminal cases.
