Land handed over to Foxconn to set up a phone manufacturing unit near Bengaluru
The state government would provide 5 minimal liquid discharges (MLD) of water, power supply, road connectivity and other infrastructure facilities.

The Karnataka government has handed over the land to Taiwanese electronic manufacturer Foxconn this month to set up a phone manufacturing unit near Bengaluru.
Earlier in March, Foxconn had announced that it would invest 968 million dollars to set up a facility in the state, amidst intense lobbying by neighbouring Telangana to attract investment from the firm. Amidst speculations on Karnataka’s fate after the Taiwanese firm backed off from the semiconductor and display production plant in Gujarat.
Gunjan Krishna, Karnataka Commerce and Industries Department Commissioner told Indian Express that Foxconn had already taken custody of the land for the project in Karnataka. “Their phone manufacturing unit will come up in an area of 300 acres at Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR), near Bengaluru International Airport,” she said.
In June this year, Industries Minister M B Patil said that Foxconn would start manufacturing iPhones at their Bengaluru plant from April 2024. Apart from announcing that the land would be handed over by July 1, he said that the state government would provide 5 minimal liquid discharges (MLD) of water, power supply, road connectivity and other infrastructure facilities.
The government’s statement issued in March says that the Rs 8,000 crore project would create 50,000 jobs.
