(File Photo)Karnataka topped the list of large states in terms of growth in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections, since the GST rationalisation measure was implemented from September 22.
“Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Haryana together contributed over 40% of the total GST revenue, underscoring their role as major consumption and production hubs,” the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said in a statement issued on Monday.
Among them, GST collections in Karnataka and Telangana increased by 10 per cent compared to the collections in October last year. In Karnataka – which stands second after Maharashtra in GST collection – revenue generated was Rs 14,395 crore this October, compared to Rs 13,081 crore in October 2024. GST collections in Telangana improved from Rs 5,211 crore in October 2024 to Rs 5,726 crore this October.
The growth rate for Gujarat was six per cent – from Rs 11,407 crore to Rs 12,113 crore, and for Tamil Nadu was four per cent – from Rs 11,188 crore to Rs 11,588 crore. Maharashtra recorded a three per cent increase – from Rs 31,030 crore to Rs 32,025 crore.
Other states recording a positive growth in GST revenue are Odisha, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where growth rates are five per cent, three per cent and two per cent, respectively.
“Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue collected for October 2025 is Rs 1,95,936 crores, registering a 4.6 per cent increase compared to Rs 1,87,346 crores for the same month last year. The sharp rise in GST collections in the onset of the recent GST rate rationalisation in late September 2025 indicates sustained consumer demand during the festive season,” the PIB release further said.
