Karnataka Rajyotsava Awards: Ram Mandir statue sculptor Arun Yogiraj, former India hockey coach Jude Felix among awardees
Former Union minister Veerappa Moily and former Karnataka minister B T Lalitha Naik are among the 69 recipients of the Karnataka Rajyotsava awards

A sculptor who made the Ram Lalla statue, a human rights lawyer who is the special public prosecutor in the trial of the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, a hockey whiz, and two highly regarded environment researchers are among the 69 recipients chosen by the Karnataka government for the annual state day or Rajyotsava awards.
Arun Yogiraj, the sculptor of the Ram statue installed at the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya; S Balan a human rights advocate; Jude Felix, the former India hockey star and coach; T V Ramachandra, an environment researcher from the Indian Institute of Science; and 88-year-old environmentalist and anti-pollution activist Almitra Patel are among the winners in the fields of sculpture, judiciary, sports and environment.
Among other prominent winners this year are former Union minister Veerappa Moily and former state minister B T Lalitha Naik in the literature category.
Narayanappa Shillekyat, 92, a proponent of the open-air theatre or bayalata featuring poetry from the epics, and Siddappa Kariappa Kuri, a blind artist of bayalata, are among the local artistes being honoured. Mallamma, a midwife, is among the recipients in the field of medicine.
Real estate baron Irfan Razack of the Prestige Group and former Karnataka chief secretary S V Ranganath, who served on the board of the Coffee Day group, are also being honoured.
The awards will be presented as part of the 69th Rajyotsava celebrations on November 1, the state formation day for Karnataka.
