The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Prathap on December 12 after they discovered that the explosives were used at Sree Rayara Brundavana farm at Janakaloti under the Madhugiri taluk in Tumakuru district. Prathap said it was a science experiment, and uploaded the video on YouTube.
The police, who got information from the local intelligence, later arrested him, after registering a case under Section 3 (causing explosion likely to endanger life or property) of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 288 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhitha (BNS). The police have also registered a case against Jithendra Jain, the land’s owner.
A police officer said Prathap visited the 25-acre land 15 days before the incident and used sodium to cause the explosion in the farm pond. “We have conducted a spot inspection before handing him over to judicial custody,” the officer said.
Prathap, who earlier claimed he was building high-capability drones, was felicitated by many schools, colleges, institutions and communities. Claiming to be a college dropout, he also said he had built more than 600 drones by the age of 22. In 2020, he claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inducted him into the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). As the media started questioning him over the claims, his claims were exposed.
