Hospital owner booked over 74 illegal abortions near Bengaluru
Aasare Hospital in Nelamangala conducted abortions without securing permission under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act.

The owner of a private hospital in Bengaluru Rural district has been charged for allegedly conducting 74 illegal abortions without proper authorization and the failure to maintain accurate abortion records.
While the illegal abortions at Aasare Hospital in Nelamangala resulted in a case being filed on February 20, the matter came to public attention on Wednesday. The hospital owner, Ravikumar NR, is presently absconding.
District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr SR Manjunath lodged a complaint after uncovering irregularities during an inspection on January 26. The FIR stated that since 2021, the hospital conducted these abortions without securing permission under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act.
A police officer said that it was found that the hospital neglected to maintain an MTP admission register with abortion details and instead recorded it in the operation theatre register, breaching various sections of the MTP Act.
The probe also revealed that despite the hospital being registered under the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME), ultrasound reports were reportedly absent in 90 per cent of case sheets. Authorities also seized the operation theatre register.
The Nelamangala town police have booked Ravikumar NR under sections 312 (causing miscarriage), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent), 315 (act done with intent to prevent child being born alive or to cause it to die after birth), and 316 (causing death of quick unborn child by act amounting to culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
