Human skull and bones discovered in a pit in Bengaluru apartment complex
The human skull and bones were found during a cleanup operation after the apartment complex at Begur in suburban Bengaluru received notices from municipal authorities regarding its non-functional stormwater management system.

Contract labourers engaged in cleaning work at a Bengaluru apartment complex stumbled upon a human skull and bones inside a percolation pit on Monday, police said.
At MN Credence Flora Apartments in New Mico Layout, Begur, the labourers discovered the human skull and bones in the pit situated near the parking area and between apartments 221 and 321 and immediately alerted the resident welfare association.
The Begur police have filed an unnatural death report following a complaint lodged by Skariya John, president of the resident welfare association. The skeletal remains have been sent to a forensic science laboratory for analysis to determine whether they are human or animal remains, with results expected within a week.
The cleanup operation was initiated after the apartment complex, which houses approximately 45 flats and has been occupied for about a decade, received multiple notices from municipal authorities regarding its non-functional stormwater management system.
“Some choked pits were not draining properly, so we began cleaning all of them systematically,” John explained to the police, adding that the association had outsourced the pit cleaning work.
While some suspect the apartment complex stands on what could have previously been a burial ground, an officer said the police were also investigating other angles as well. The police officer said that all 16 percolation pits in the apartment complex were being examined as part of the investigation.
