“They have already made three bogus guarantees. This is the fourth one,” he told reporters. Earlier in the day, at a rally attended by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the party announced monthly unemployment allowances of Rs 3,000 for graduates and Rs 1,500 for diploma holders for two years.
Bommai said the Congress had made a similar promise in Rajasthan but did not fulfil it. In Chhattisgarh, the party announced a Rs 1,500 dole but it was not fulfilled either, he said. “They have made such announcements in four states and did not stick to their words. We will release a list (of such announcements) soon,” he said in Hubballi.
The BJP leader said the Congress was resorting to lies because it was desperate to win the polls. “They are making such guarantees as they are certain of losing the polls. They are ready to cheat people with their lies. But the people won’t believe them,” he said.
The Opposition party had already made three “guarantees” in the state: 200 units of free power to all households, Rs 2,000 to the female head of every family and 10 kg free rice to BPL families. The fourth one was announced Monday and a few more are expected ahead of the polls.
