Bengaluru may receive light rainfall from today, yellow alert sounded in parts of Karnataka

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rainfall in Bengaluru from April 26 to April 30. It has also issued a yellow alert for Kalaburgi, Yadgiri, Raichur, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Ballari districts for Wednesday.

For the regions which have been put on yellow alert, the Met Department said in a statement that light to moderate thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with a speed of 30-40 kmph are very likely. “There will be a possible disruption of electricity and minor traffic snarls. There is a possibility of uprooting of weak tree branches during rain,” the IMD stated.

“A trough has been formed over the Western Vidarbha region resulting in an upper air cyclonic circulation over south-interior Karnataka. This will result in rainfall in some parts of Karnataka,” said A Prasad, senior scientist at IMD Bengaluru.

Kalaburgi reeling under extreme heat recorded the highest maximum temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius on April 25.

Since April 1, Bengaluru has received 17 mm of rainfall. “Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is very likely towards evening/night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 33 and 23 degrees Celsius respectively,” the IMD said in its weather forecast for Bengaluru.
