Bengaluru college student dies by suicide after she loses money in cyber fraud
The student left behind a death note mentioning the names of her friends to whom she owed money.

A 20-year student in Bengaluru died by suicide in her hostel room on Sunday night after allegedly losing money in a cyber fraud, said the police.
The deceased was identified as Pavana, a native of Kolar Gold Fields in the Kolar district of Karnataka and a first-year BSc student at Maharani Cluster University. The death came to light when Pavana’s friend returned to the room after midnight.
A police officer said, “Pavana is the daughter of a bus conductor and she has left behind a suicide note. Though we cannot open the lock of her mobile phone, the investigations have suggested she had lost some money in a cyber fraud. We are yet to ascertain the nature of the cybercrime in which she lost money. We have sought experts’ help to unlock her phone to check online transactions.”
An initial inquiry revealed that she had borrowed Rs 15,000 from her friends and returned Rs 10,000. In the death note, she mentioned the names of friends to whom she owed money and asked her parents to return the money on her behalf, a police officer said.
The High Grounds police registered a case of unnatural death and began a probe.
