In the complaint, the victims – R Chandrabhanu who is a retired Group Captain and his friend retired Captain Haridas – have alleged that they had paid the amount as advance booking fee to the suspect – Raghavendra C.
According to the police, Chandrabhanu got in touch with Raghavendra in November 2020 through mutual connections and discussed the BDA sites.
Raghavendra allegedly demanded an upfront payment of Rs 1 lakh per site for reservation and Chandrabhanu booked four sites – distributed among himself, his spouse, and children – making a transaction of Rs 4 lakh via Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) from his State Bank of India account.
Retired Captain Haridas who got to know about the alleged BDA plots through Chandrabhanu also showed interest in the scheme, reserving two sites in his and his wife’s names and transferred Rs 2 lakh from his bank account to the suspect’s account.
When asked about the sites, Raghavendra kept giving excuses prompting Chandrabhanu to return Rs 2 lakh paid by his friend from his pocket after Haridas kept asking about the progress of the deal.
With efforts to reclaim their funds proving futile, Chandrabhanu lodged a formal complaint with the Kodigehalli police on February 14.
The Kodigehalli police registered a case under Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The case was transferred to the Vidhana Soudha police station on February 16.
