(File) Ahead of the Karnataka High Court hearing over illegal advertisements in Bengaluru, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath has ordered that zonal commissioners and chief engineers will be held responsible for failing to remove illegal flex banners, hoardings and LED boards.
The High Court recently gave BBMP three weeks to clear all unauthorized signages, else face Rs 50,000 penalty each for the civic body and state government.
Following this, BBMP directed officials to remove such advertisements and submit compliance reports by August 16.
“It is hereby informed that additional/zonal commissioners and chief engineers will be held responsible for the consequences caused by the violation of the High Court directions,” the order read.
If they fail to clear hoardings, the fine amount will be recovered from them, acoording to the order. During the recent hearing, the court pulled up the government and BBMP over inaction on unauthorized advertisements. BBMP told the court that 59,413 illegal hoardings were identified since March 21 and 58,249 removed without penalties.
