Dr Chandra said implementation of 'One Health' system and increasing labs in PHCs are another focus areas of the BBMP. (Express) The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be investing heavily in healthcare, collaborating with NGOs, seeking CSR funds, and using information technology (IT) to improve healthcare services in the city, Special Commissioner (Health) Dr Thrilok Chandra said Thursday.
Speaking at a seminar on the topic ‘Brand Bengaluru, Healthy Bengaluru’, Dr Chandra that the BBMP has identified key sectors to improve healthcare services in the city.
Dr Chandra said that over 10,478 suggestions were made by citizens on how to improve the healthcare system under the Brand Bengaluru initiative. Several suggestions from these were later divided into different categories, and a report will be submitted to the Karnataka government soon, he said.
“Citizens of Bangalore should have access to healthcare easily and at very affordable rates. We have taken appropriate measures to establish a safer and healthier city. All forms of medical health systems should be strengthened to deal with emergency situations like Covid,” he said.
Dr Ramesh Krishna K, Dean and Director Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) said, “More facilities should be provided in urban primary health centers and maternity hospitals under the jurisdiction of the BBMP so that the pressure on secondary and tertiary health care units is reduced.”
232 Namma Clinics, which are modelled on Mohalla Clinics of Delhi, are operational in Bengaluru and are managed by the BBMP.
Dr Chandra said the BBMP is working with AI and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru to establish war rooms which will focus on enhancing healthcare systems.
He said implementation of ‘One Health’ system and increasing labs in PHCs are another focus areas of the BBMP. “Climate change and its impact on health and the health of animals are another focus areas,” he added.
The ‘One Health’ system is an integrated approach that aims to sustainably balance the health of people, animals and ecosystems.
