Since the KR Puram-Whitefield Metro stretch was opened to the public, approximately 30,000 passengers have been utilizing the line daily. (File Photo) Metro services on two stretches of the Purple Line in Bengaluru will be curtailed from July 9 to August 10 owing to signalling and other maintenance work.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said that there will be no Metro services between Baiyappanahalli terminal and Swami Vivekananda Road Metro station and Krishnarajapura (KR Puram) and Whitefield (Kadugodi) between 5 am and 7 am.
However, the train services will be available between Swami Vivekananda road metro station to Kengeri, to-and-fro, between 5 am to 7 am. After 7 am, regular train services will be available between Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri metro stations, and KR Puram and Whitefield.
The Byappanahalli-KR Puram corridor serves as the missing link on the Purple Line and has not been opened yet for commercial operations. As part of Phase II of the Namma Metro project, BMRCL extended the Purple Line from Byappanahalli to Whitefield. While the 13.75-km line from KR Puram to Whitefield is operational, the approximately 2 km section from Byappanahalli to KR Puram has remained closed due to construction delays in the completion of an open web girder across the Benniganahalli railway track.
During the curtailed period, scheduled train services will be available between Kengeri and SV Road from 5 am to 7 am. From 7 am onwards, trains will operate between Byappanahalli and Kengeri, and between KR Puram and Whitefield till 11 pm, as per the usual schedule.
Since the KR Puram-Whitefield Metro stretch was opened to the public, approximately 30,000 passengers have been utilizing the line daily. However, due to the missing link between KR Puram and Byappanahalli, commuters have had to rely on feeder bus services or other transportation modes to reach KR Puram station after disembarking at Byappanahalli.
