Akasa Air is set to launch direct flights between Bengaluru and Abu Dhabi from Saturday. The airline, which is just about three years old, is also launching Ahmedabad-Abu Dhabi flights on the same day.

The maiden flight from Bengaluru is set to depart from Kempegowda International Airport at 10 am India Standard Time (IST) and reach Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi at 12.35 pm Arabia Standard Time (AST). The maiden flight from Ahmedabad will depart Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 10.45 pm IST, arriving at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi at 1 am AST on March 2.

Neelu Khatri from Akasa Air said, “We will be launching our international operations with a primary focus on Gulf destinations like Doha, Kuwait, and Abu Dhabi. We will soon ramp up international operations to regions such as South East Asia, North West, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.”

She further said, “With our current fleet size of 27 aircraft, 17 per cent of the fleet will cater to international destinations.”

However, according to Akasa Air’s website, a one-way ticket of economy class from Bengaluru to Abu Dhabi costs Rs 60,505. The airline, though, is offering a one-way ticket to Abu Dhabi with a layover of 15 hours via Mumbai at Rs 15,000.

Justifying the price of the direct flight, Khatri told The Indian Express that the fares are dynamically priced. “Akasa Air has entered into a unilateral codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways to operate flights between Bengaluru and Abu Dhabi and tickets on the route are largely sold by Etihad Airways,” she added.

In addition, Akasa Air has introduced a safety instruction card and onboard menu card in Braille for persons with visual impairment.
