The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has imposed restrictions on meat shops, sale of non-vegetarian food, and crane operations in the vicinity of the Yelahanka Air Force Station as part of standard protocols ahead of Aero India 2025 which is set to be held from February 10 to February 14.

As per the notification, all meat and fish stalls, non-vegetarian hotels and restaurants within a 13-km radius of the airbase must remain closed from January 23 to February 17, 2025. The sale and serving of non-vegetarian dishes have also been strictly prohibited during this period.

These measures have been implemented as part of standard safety and operational protocols for air shows. BBMP officials stated that non-vegetarian food attracts scavenger birds, which can pose a significant risk to aircraft during take-off, landing and aerial displays. Similarly, cranes and construction equipment near the airbase could interfere with flight paths, endangering both aircraft and spectators.

BBMP officials also stated that construction dust can pose significant risks during air shows by affecting visibility for pilots and interfering with the performance of aircraft equipment.

Violators will face strict action under the BBMP Act, 2020, and Rule 91 of the Indian Aircraft Rules, 1937, as per officials of the civic body and the Joint Director of Town Planning (North Division).
