The well-known German music group Enigma is set to perform in Bengaluru on October 5 at the Jayamahal Palace Grounds — on their first visit to India.

While many musicians have featured in Enigma songs over the decades, the line-up in Bengaluru will feature Andru Donalds, Angel X, and Fox Lima.

The event is being held in collaboration with the Indian Artist Collective. According to one of the co-founders, Chintan Chinappa, “Enigma has never played in India and there is a large following for that sort of music… It has elements of a lot of genres and we felt that this would work very well with the Bangalore crowd. The event will have Enigma as the only artist.”

“I am from the time when cassettes were doing the rounds, an 80s kid. The Enigma cassettes with their more famous numbers. We hadn’t heard the music of that style ever. Though Bollywood used such beats later, we had not heard something so melodic or exotic in the 80s. A large section of the audience between the ages of 30 and 55 would have heard Enigma and would be keen to watch the artist live,” he said.

Founded by music producer Michael Cretu, the group has defied easy classification into a single genre, often blending multiple influences and incorporating effects such as Gregorian chants into the music.

Responding to queries from The Indian Express, Andru Donalds of Enigma said, “We’ve got some of Enigma’s most iconic tracks lined up for the performance in India — songs like Return to Innocence, Sadeness, and Mea Culpa. For someone who’s never experienced our music before, it’s going to be a deep and immersive journey”.

“We’re incredibly excited about performing in India for the first time. India has such a rich and diverse musical heritage, and we’re looking forward to merging that with our own unique sound. Honestly, we’re eager to see how the Indian audience responds to our live performance. There’s a special energy that comes from the crowd, and we know it’s going to be unforgettable. Plus, we’ve heard great things about the culture and hospitality in Bengaluru, so we’re really looking forward to experiencing that firsthand, added Donalds.

While talking about Enigma’s plans, Donalds said, “We have also got some new creative projects in the works. Without giving too much away, let’s just say we’re always evolving, always exploring new ways to push the boundaries of sound. So, there’s definitely more to come after India, but right now, we’re just soaking in the excitement of this tour”.

Tickets for the Enigma event from 7 pm to 10 pm on October 5 are available on the live section of the Zomato App, with organisers expecting around 2500 attendees.
