‘Work on Medicity nearing completion’: Health Minister reviews project plans

A review meeting of the master plan for the development of Medicity — which encompasses several public sector hospitals and institutions centred around Ahmedabad Civil Hospital — was chaired by Health Minister Rushikesh Patel Thursday.
“The construction work of the development of Civil Medicity, which is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream, is nearing completion. All the medical and super-specialist services which will be available in Civil Medicity will be exemplary for other hospitals in the state and the country. Due to the availability of multiple super-specialist services in Civil Medicity, medical tourism in Gujarat is increasing,” said the Minister. A system to provide on campus information, seamless mobility, signage (hoardings) for patients entering and leaving from various hospitals and information about services being provided in Medicity is also there in the master plan, said a government statement.

A plan to increase two gates will be taken up soon, said the statement. Patel also instructed officials to prepare a master development plan for the compound housing the Hospital for Mental Health and Maniben Hospital, based on future requirements. Additionally, other projects, at the cost of Rs 838 crore, have also been undertaken on the Medicity campus, including an 1,800-bed hospital with facilities like OPD, IPD, ICU worth Rs 588 crore. A tender for the same has been issued.
Presently, the Medicity campus includes the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre (UNMICRC), the Institute for Kidney Disease and Research Centre (IKDRC), the 1,200-bed Woman and Child Super-Speciality Hospital, the Government Dental College, the Government Spine Institute, and the M&J Institute of Ophthalmology.
