Watch | Moment when the Air India flight crashed in Ahmedabad minutes after take-off

The aircraft, a Boeing Dreamliner, took off around 1.47 pm, and crashed 9 minutes after being given clearance for take-off, said the officials.

Ahmedabad plane crash news: Soon after a London-bound flight with 242 people on board crashed near Ahmedabad airport Thursday afternoon, visuals and videos of the same were widely shared online.

A video, being circulated online, captured the moment when the Air India aircraft went down and burst into flames behind a cluster of buildings. Soon after thick, black smoke could be seen billowing out of the crash site.

The aircraft, a Boeing Dreamliner, took off around 1.47 pm, and crashed 9 minutes after being given clearance for take-off, said the officials.

Following the crash, Air India, in a a statement, said: “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest.”

Three National Disaster Response Force teams have been despatched from Gandhinagar to the plane crash site. Three more teams are being moved from Vadodara.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel extended his condolences, and said that officials have been instructed to carry out immediate relief work and arrange for the treatment of the injured on war footing. “I am deeply saddened by the incident of Air India passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad. I have instructed the officials to carry out immediate rescue and relief work and arrange for immediate treatment of the injured passengers on a war footing. I have also instructed to arrange for a green corridor to take the injured passengers for treatment and to ensure all arrangements for treatment in the hospital on priority basis. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also spoken to me and assured full cooperation,” he said.
