To evade arrest,wanted gangster Mukesh Harjani and his sharpshooter,Anil Gangwani alias Anthony,changed SIM cards by using the identity of a Warasia-based businessman,Prakash Sadhwani alias Bunty,the Vadodara Special Operations Group (SOG) has said.
Anthony,the police said,had booked three SIM cards using the voter identity cards of Sadhwani.
Harjani has been declared wanted in several cases of murders,bootlegging,threats and kidnappings. He was recently involved in the shootout in Alkapuri when a Warasia-based businessman,Haresh Jagiasi,was badly wounded with a Chinese-made gun.
According to the police,around one and a half months ago,Anthony had approached Bunty to get him a SIM card,saying that he did not have proper identification papers.
When we were checking Harjani and Anthonys phone records,we found that all of them were booked under Buntys name, said SOG Sub-Inspector H M Alsika.
He said Bunty is a friend of Anthony and Harjani.
But after one and a half months when the police reached his doorstep,he realised that he was forced to use his voters id to book them the numbers: 9725386250,9726075255 and 9879489241, the officer added.
The police believe that Harjani has been changing his SIM numbers in a bid to confuse the police who are hot on his trail.
Meanwhile,the Anand police have named Harjani and his henchmen,including Anthony,in the killing of former BJP councillor Alpesh Chacko Patel.
