Voting peaceful except for minor complaints

Besides minor incidents,the poll process ended on a peaceful note in the Junagadh Lok Sabha constituency. Two poll-related complaints were registered with the Mangrol and Talala police station.

Besides minor incidents,the poll process ended on a peaceful note in the Junagadh Lok Sabha constituency. Two poll-related complaints were registered with the Mangrol and Talala police station.

The first incident of poll violence occurred on the outskirts of Jamwali village in Mangrol taluka in which a clash was reported between Congress and BJP supporters.

Mansing Dodiya,the president of the BJP youth unit lodged a complaint with the Mangrol police station alleging that Congress supporters and Bhandoori village sarpanch Rayka Ahir and his associates intercepted and damaged his vehicle. They also physically attacked Dodiya and the BJP polling agent Rasik Bhut,the complaint said. The associates have been identified as Husain Dal,Habib Dal,Arjan Ahir and 10 others.

The police registered a complaint under Sections 147,148,149 (rioting),323 (physical attack) 504 (abuse) 506 (2) (threat to life) 352,and 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In a separate incident on the outskirts of Vithalpur village in Talala taluka,a clash was reported between the supporters of rival parties.

The complainant,Raghu Karadiya,accused Ranjit Gohil,Kara Gohil and Mansingh Solanki of indulging in a skirmish with him over an issue of voting for a particular candidate. Following Karadiya’s complaint,the Talala police registered an offence under section 323,324,504 and 114 of the IPC.

According to police sources,no one has been arrested yet and both complaints are being investigated.
