The standing committee of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) approved the proposal for a beautification project of the outdoor sports complex in Manjalpur area in the city at its weekly meeting on Friday.
The Rs 30-crore complex,currently under construction,will be beautified with plants and lawns at the cost of Rs 5.75 lakh.
The proposal was moved by the Parks and Gardens Department of the VMC through the municipal commissioner on June 8.
After the approval of the standing committee,the city-based company,Varsha Construction was given the contract to maintain the lawns of the football grounds and to plant trees around the complex.
The complex is planned to have a football ground,a hockey pitch,two tennis courts,a basketball court,shooting range,a 400-metre racing track and grounds for kabaddi and kho kho.
Additionally,trees are to be planted along the RCC road that divides the stadium into two and along the walls of the complex according to an official of Nutan Sthapatya,a city-based project management consultant (PMC) for the complex.
The Housing and Building Department of the VMC is handling the construction of the complex.
Though the sports complex is our project,we had left the lawn and plantation work for the Parks and Gardens Department because they have the required expertise for the work, said a top official of the Housing and Building Department of the civic body.
Ahmedabad-based PC Snehal Construction Company is constructing the stadium for the city municipal corporation.
The work on the stadium had started in 2010. the contractor missed the deadline of April 2011 to complete the work.
The complex is now expected to be ready by September 30 this year.
