There is a need to adopt fast,cheap and sturdy technologies in the construction industry to make housing affordable for all,more so in view of the fast shrinking labour supply in the sector. This was emphasised by experts at a day-long seminar on new construction technology for affordable housing,held under the aegis of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in the city on Saturday.
Labour supply is declining rapidly in the housing sector due to growing ambitions to improve living conditions of workers,the experts said. New technology of assembling pre-cast hollow blocks to considerably reduce construction time was discussed as a suitable alternative to the traditional,costly and time-consuming method.
Mayor Minaxi Patel inaugurated the meet,while Municipal Commissioner G P Mohapatra,Housing department Secretary Mona Khandhar and Principal Secretary (Urban Development) G R Aloria spoke on the occasion.
AMC slaps fine on mall,hotel for mosquito breeding
New West Zone health department on Saturday slapped administrative charge of Rs 5,000 on Devarc Mall and Rs 3,000 on Hotel Novotel in Jodhpur ward for mosquito breeding. It imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Anand Niketan School in Thaltej ward,said a AMC release.
