The Director General of Vigilance squad of the state police on Sunday busted a racket involved in black marketing of Public Distribution System (PDS) wheat in flour mills at Changodar town of Ahmedabad district. Three persons were arrested in this regard,police said.
Based on a tip-off that a truck carrying PDS wheat was being taken to Changodar town in Ahmedabad District,the DG Vigilance squad held the truck driver and seized the truck at Khokhra.
The accused were identified as Kishan Chotalal Katiq of Naroda,Harish Gidwani and Kaniyalal Gidwani of Khokhra who ran PDS stores. According to the investigation,the accused were reportedly black marketing PDS products for a long time. The PDS products wheat,rice,sugar and kerosene were stocked to be sold at higher rates to flour mills instead of supplying it to BPL families.
The DG vigilance squad seized 240 sacks of wheat weighing 50 kg each,worth Rs 90,000 from the truck. The squad officials said the wheat was to be delivered to Jay Shakti Flour Mill in Changodar area. The accused reportedly used to get 50 kg of wheat at the rate of Rs 375 from the Food and Civil Supplies Department. They used to sell the wheat packets at Rs 650,earning a profit of Rs 285 on every packet.
According to sources,the Vigilance squad and Food and Civil Supplies Department are currently raiding a few more spots in the city where PDS kerosene is sold in a similar manner.
