A teacher of the Junagadh-based Saint Xaviers High School was arrested on Monday for allegedly molesting an eight-year-old girl student of Class III of the same school. The accused has been identified as Joy Marks Mekaily (40).
According to the complaint lodged with the Vanthali police station,the complainant,the father of the child,has alleged that the accused had molested his daughter and her classmate on March 14. The two girls are both students of Class III of the same school located on the outskirts of Umatwada village near Junagadh. The girl had reported the incident to his father later,who then approached the police.
Following the complaint,the Vanthali police registered an offence against the accused under Section 354 of the IPC.
Investigation Officer,Vanthali police station Sub-Inspector K L Jadeja said: The police swung into action immediately after the complaint was registered,but the accused was not found at his residence in the Radha Krishna Nagar society in Junagadh. Later,the police commenced a search operation,and acting on a tip-off,arrested him from a truck near Chowki village on the JunagadhRajkot highway.
The accused was then produced before the court of judicial magistrate First Class in Vanthali town,which sent him to judicial custody in the Junagadh jail,after no one came forward to secure his bail.
Following the incident,the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has now submitted a memorandum to the district collector and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident. The National Students Union of India (NSUI) has also demanded stern action against the teacher and has threatened to carry out an agitation if the accused teacher resumes his duty.
