‘SWAC equipped to protect installations’

The South Western Air Command (SWAC) understands the importance of the security of vital installations and is equipped to protect them,Air Commodore A S Bahal,Air Officer Commanding,Air Force Station (AFS) Vadodara,said on Saturday.

“SWAC understands the importance of the installations in Gujarat and Rajasthan and we can assure the security of these,” said Air Commodore Bahal. He was speaking on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of AFS Vadodara.

The border areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan have always been prone to attack.

He added: “We are ready to take them on. A combination of measures is being taken,including fighter jets,modern radars and surface-to-air weapon systems to secure the vital installations in the region under SWAC.”

Air Commodore Bahal said that in addition to the security of the installations,AFS Vadodara is also involved in enhancing the professional life of the airmen. “Lots of steps are being taken to improve the quality of sports and adventure,” he said,adding that the AFS has recently come up with a squash court,swimming pool and a gymnasium.

Besides,the AFS is also committed to welfare activities. This year,AFS Vadodara has adopted Darjipura village,he said. “The adoption includes taking care of the health and education. After the adoption,AFS Vadodara has conducted health camps and medical check-ups in the village. Besides,the children in the villages have been given notebooks and bags. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is also donating generously from the Mother Teresa Fund for the destitute,” he added.

He said AFS Vadodara is also in the process of running a publicity campaign in the schools in the city. Soon a campaign will be launched across colleges in Gujarat.

“We are trying to attract higher secondary students. We have covered Kendriya Vidyalayas and the response has been good. We are planning a similar campaign at colleges in Vadodara,” said Wing Commander H H Nair,Chief Administrative Officer,AFS Vadodara.
