Surendranagar sizzles at 44.8 degrees as heat wave grips Gujarat

While Rajkot sizzled at 44 degree Celsius, Amreli recorded 43.8 degrees, Kandla Airport 43.4, Deesa 43.1, Ahmedabad and Bhuj 43, Keshod 42.8, Vadodara 42.2, Gandhinagar 42, and Surat 40.6 degree Celsius.

At 44.8 degree Celsius, Surendranagar on Tuesday recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state as it continued to reel under heat wave conditions.

While Rajkot sizzled at 44 degree Celsius, Amreli recorded 43.8 degrees, Kandla Airport 43.4, Deesa 43.1, Ahmedabad and Bhuj 43, Keshod 42.8, Vadodara 42.2, Gandhinagar 42, and Surat 40.6 degree Celsius.

The temperature in a majority of these centres was 4-5 degrees higher than normal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat wave alert till Thursday with an orange alert for North Gujarat region including Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana and Sabarkantha; and Saurashtra districts such as Rajkot, Morbi and Kutch on Wednesday.

A yellow alert for heat wave conditions has been issued for Gandhinagar and Surendranagar on Wednesday.

Heat wave conditions are expected in Banaskantha and Sabarkantha on Thursday.

“No large change in maximum temperatures during the next 48 hours; thereafter, fall by 2-4 degrees very likely over the region. Maximum temperatures are very likely to be in the range of 41-45 degree Celsius in the state,” the weather department has warned.
