Surat SOG summons 2 Army jawans over arrest of suspected ISI agent

The SOG issued notices to two army jawans identified as Rajpal Singh of Punjab who is presently serving in Bhuj, and Rajesh Thakur, who serves in Himachal Pradesh.

The Surat Special operation Group (SOG) on Saturday summoned two army jawans who have allegedly transferred money to the bank account of suspected ISI agent Deepak Salunke who was arrested in December last year.

The SOG issued notices to two army jawans identified as Rajpal Singh of Punjab who is presently serving in Bhuj, and Rajesh Thakur, who serves in Himachal Pradesh.

SOG police inspector A P Chaudhary said, “We have issued notices to the top officials of Army in Bhuj and Himachal Pradesh, to send both Rajpal Singh and Rajesh Thakur to Surat to register their statements in relation with the arrest of Deepak Salunke. Both these army jawans had transferred Rs 3,500 each through online into the account of Deepak Salunke, last year… At present it is difficult to say anything but once we record statements of Singh and Thakur, the picture would be clearer to us.”

Deepak Salunke, a resident of Dindoli area in Surat and a native of Dhule in Maharashtra, was was arrested by the Surat Crime Branch on December 12, on an intelligence input, and a complaint against him under IPC sections 121(a) (waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India) and 120 (criminal conspiracy).

According to the police, the accused Deepak Kishor Salunke received over Rs 75,856 via cryptocurrency exchange Binance from Pakistan-based handlers identified as Hamid and Kashif in exchange of vital information about Army.
