Surat | Fake FB account created in name of BJP MLA Sangita Patil

The MLA has filed a complaint with Surat police's cyber crime department.

The Surat cyber crime branch is looking for an unknown person who allegedly created a fake Facebook account in the name of Limbayat BJP MLA Sangita Patil and sent friend requests to many people.

Patil was on Thursday informed by her acquaintances that they had received friend requests from an account that has her name and photograph. She then filed a complaint with the cyber crime department.

Surat Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) Y A Gohil said, “We have written to Facebook to provide necessary details, so that those involved in creating the fake account can be identified. The fake account has already been deleted by Meta following our request. Once the accused is identified, we will register an offence.”

When contacted, Patil said, “I received the first call from Amolji Soni, who runs a jewellery shop in Surat… he is a BJP worker and also a friend… he received the friend request on Wednesday. Similarly, a lawyer from Limbayat received a friend request. Today, I came to know two BJP leaders had also received friend requests from me.”

Patil had on Thursday evening left a message on her Facebook page, warning people against the fake account.
