At the eighth governing council meeting of the Niti Aayog held in Delhi on Saturday, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said that Gujarat has set a target to contribute 10 per cent or more to the national economy, a target that was also set in the state Budget passed in February.

While presenting Gujarat’s road map for a developed India @2047 at the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Patel said, “The Prime Minister has set a vision to make India a USD 5 trillion economy in the coming years. Gujarat, in line with the PM’s vision, has set a target to contribute 10 per cent or more to the national economy.” Gujarat currently contributes 8.36 per cent to the country’s GDP.

The CM said that the state had planned its developmental roadmap based on the “five pillar of development” – infrastructure and social security for the poor and needy, human resource development, world-class infrastructure, increasing employment opportunities by promoting foreign investment and green growth. He added that the holistic budget of Rs 3 lakh crore was aimed at achieving these targets.

A statement issued by the government said that Patel announced that the tenth edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Investment Summit would be held in 2024. The biennial summit had to be called off on account of the Covid-19 pandemic last year.

The statement quoted Patel as saying that Gujarat was the “first state in the country to integrate central and state data layers into an integrated portal of PM Gati Shakti”.

It added, “Due to this, the pace of planning has increased, as now it takes less time for project planning. He (Patel) mentioned that 5G services are being launched by telecom service providers across Gujarat by leveraging Bharat Net’s assets through the Gati Shakti platform. He also mentioned the use of PM Gati Shakti across different sectors…”

Patel further said that greenfield-based economic cities like GIFT City, Dholera and Dream City are being developed in Gujarat in accordance with the PM’s concept of focusing more on the development of cities based on economic activities.

“These have got an investment of more than Rs 63,000 crore and provided employment opportunities to nearly 75 lakh people,” Patel added.
