Standing committee proposes new administrative zone for RMC
At present, 18 wards of the city have been divided into three administrative zones — east, west and central — by the RMC.

Rajkot city is likely to get a new administrative zone, as the standing committee of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has proposed to carve some areas out of existing east and central zones and form a south zone.
At a special meeting to discuss and approve RMC budget 2024-25 on Thursday, the standing committee proposed to carve out wards 15, 16, 17 and 18 from existing administrative zones and form a new zone, which will be called south zone, by regrouping these wards.
At present, 18 wards of the city have been divided into three administrative zones — east, west and central — by the RMC. Accordingly, while wards 15, 16 and 18 are part of east zone, ward 17 is part of central zone.
Standing committee chairman Jaimin Thakar had said in his budget draft: “The population and area of the city has been increasing progressively since the time Rajkot Municipal Corporation was established. At present, three zones – central zone, east zone and west zone – are operational. Keeping the need of the hour and for further decentralisation of services of Rajkot Municipal Corporation, one more zone will be added by creating ‘south zone’.”
“It will include wards 15, 16, 17 and 18 and Rs 6 crore are (proposed) to be allocated in the budget for this purpose so that grievances of residents of this area are addressed in a speedier manner and their convenience increases,” he had said.
