South Gujarat gets rain; IMD says thunderstorm likely in parts of state

Even as heat wave conditions prevailed in Saurashtra, rainfall was reported in South Gujarat Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a warning of thunderstorm with hail and lightning in parts of state on Thursday and Friday.
The IMD also forecast of light to moderate rainfall over the state till March 20. The maximum temperatures are expected to fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius whereas the minimum temperatures are expected to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the coming two days and fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next three days, stated the IMD.

“Light thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind less than 40 kmph (in gust) accompanied with light to moderate rain very likely at isolated places in Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Botad and Kutch,” it added.
On March 17, light thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind less than 40 kmph (in gust) accompanied with light to moderate rain very likely at isolated places in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Botad.
While the highest maximum temperature recorded in Gujarat on Wednesday was 38.2 degrees Celsius in Amreli and the highest minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius was recorded in Junagadh.
Porbandar recorded maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, while Ahmedabad recorded maximum of 30.7 degrees Celsius and minimum of 20.4 degrees Celsius.
Bhuj recorded 36.6 degrees Celsius, Naliya 36.4, Veraval 36, Keshod 34.8, Bhavnagar 33.3, Vadodara 34, Gandhinagar 30.2 and Keshod 34.8 degrees Celsius.
