Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s wife left behind at Junagadh event, convoy takes a U-turn

“As soon as the convoy came out of the groundnut research centre and proceeded ahead, within a short while, it was realised that Sadhana Singh is in this circuit house (at the groundnut research centre) only," an officer said.

During Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s recent visit to Junagadh on July 19, a mix-up between two state guest houses led to his wife, Sadhana Singh, being left behind. The convoy later made a U-turn to collect her, and they proceeded to Rajkot, said sources. The incident occurred after Chouhan had attended a function at the groundnut research centre and departed.

Explaining the miscommunication between the Union Minister’s security team and Gujarat police officials, a senior police officer from Junagadh, requesting anonymity, said: “There are two circuit houses in Junagadh; one at the groundnut research centre and the other is around 1 km away from it. As the function started and the minister joined it, the minister’s wife had gone to the circuit house at the groundnut research centre to freshen up but the Personal Security Officer of the Union Minister mistakenly thought that she was at the other location”.

“After the function, as soon as the convoy came out of the groundnut research centre and proceeded ahead (to pick up the minister’s wife), within a short while (in less than 100 metre), it was realised that Sadhana Singh is in this circuit house (at the groundnut research centre) only. So, the convoy took a U-turn to pick her up,” said the senior police officer.

“Madam was collected from there and then the convoy proceeded to Rajkot,” the officer added.
