A close woman associate of Narayan Sai,accused in a sexual assault case, has been arrested in Rama village near Udaipur in Rajasthan.

The Surat police took custody of the woman, identified as Dharmishta Patel alias Ganga,on Friday afternoon and left for Surat after getting a transit remand from a court in Udaipur.

According to police sources, she has allegedly threatened a rape victim, when she decided to quit Sai’s ashram after the sexual assault incident. Ganga had locked her in a room for two days in Gambhoi Ashram in Sabarkantha district of north Gujarat, the police said.

Ganga is one of the three close aides of Sai who were on police radar in connection with the case lodged on October 6. The other two aides are Jamna alias Bhavna Patel and Hanuman alias Kaushal Thakur.

Surat police had got non-bailable warrants from a Surat court against Sai,Ganga,Jamna and Hanuman on October 29.

After been declared wanted in the case,Ganga with her husband Pramod reached Rama village and contacted Shanker Prajapati,an ardent follower of Asaram. The duo reportedly took shelter in his house. Shanker came in contact with Ganga at an ashram in Gujarat.

Acting on a tip-off,Udaipur police raided Shanker’s house on Thursday and caught them. “Ganga is also instrumental in sending the victims to Sai. We believe that after getting custody of Ganga,we will trace Sai and two others who are still absconding,” said Shobha Bhutada,Police Deputy Commissioner of Zone 4 in Surat.
