The IAS officer K Kailashnathan, also known as KK, will continue to supervise the implementation of Sabarmati Ashram Redevelopment Project even after his retirement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) as Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. The redevelopment project was formally known as the Gandhi Ashram Memorial and Precinct Development.

The state government’s latest resolution amended the formation of the Governing Council and Executive Council while retaining the name of Kailashnathan as member and chairman of the two councils, respectively. Kailashnathan has been named on the two councils ‘until further orders’.

The Industries and Mines Department of Gujarat government issued a resolution regarding this late Tuesday.

The state government and the Central government are jointly redeveloping the Sabarmati Ashram project at the cost of Rs 1200 crore and KK has been supervising the project since the beginning.

After his retirement on June 30, KK has also been retained as the Chairman of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) ‘until further orders’.

Kailashnathan, who has been getting extensions as Chief Principal Secretary since 2013, retired from the CMO last month after spending 18 years in the office.
