RESPECT FOR human rights, compliance with constitutional values and maintaining impartiality are necessary during discharge of duty for police personnel who implement law, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said on Tuesday.

Patel was addressing a public function in Gandhinagar during which he also distributed appointment letters to 11,607 Lok Rakshak jawans in Gujarat Police. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Director General of Police Vikas Sahay and Police Bharti Board Chairperson Neerja Gotru were also present.

The CM said, “Because of the addition of new tech-savvy human resources in the police force, not only has the number increased,  capacity building has also been done. Technology is only a means,  the real strength is humanity, honesty and courage.”

“Respect for human rights, compliance of constitutional values and impartiality are as necessary for police officers who implement law during discharge of their duty. Restraint in behaviour, humility in words and sincerity in work should be your priority. When a person is in trouble, he first remembers the police for help. A good policeman implements law while cultivating people’s trust and confidence,” the CM added.

The CM also recalled the meaning of ‘POLICE’ as emphasised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi; P for Polite, O for Obedient, I for Intelligent, C for Courageous and E for Enthusiastic.

The CM congratulated the newly appointed candidates and expressed confidence that they would act on the mantra of ‘Nagrik Devo Bhava’ (Citizen is like God), as underlined by PM Modi.

Referring to the ongoing recruitment process in the state, CM Patel said the government has been giving priority to ‘ease of living’ of  citizens. And for this, he added, it is essential that all the departments of the state get sufficient workforce. The CM added that for this the state government is conducting recruitment process in a “transparent and timely manner.”

In his address, Deputy CM Sanghavi urged the new recruits “not to forget their roots”. He added that the khaki uniform gives them the “power to curb evil elements in the society.” He also expressed hope that they would be able to help whoever comes to them with a request.

Earlier in the day, CM Patel and Dy CM Sanghavi had inaugurated a two-day Crime Conference of the Gujarat police in the state capital.

A statement said that during the inaugural function of the Crime Conference, the CM called upon the senior police officers of the state to create such an atmosphere that the bridge of trust between police and public strengthens so that the latter does not face any difficulty in connecting with police.

The CM said that due to the “peace and security” in Gujarat, global companies are choosing the state and gave credit for the same to the Gujarat Police.

The conference was attended by police officers of various ranks.
