Ram temple consecration ceremony tomorrow: Schools shut, govt requests slaughterhouses to remain closed
The state government also announced that it has “requested” slaughterhouses to remain shut on Monday.

After the state government announced half day leave till 2.30 pm on Monday to allow its employees to celebrate Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, the state director of primary education on Saturday announced that schools and educational institutions in Gujarat will remain closed on Monday to comply with the government order.
The state government also announced that it has “requested” slaughterhouses to remain shut on Monday. A circular issued by the office of state director of primary education stated that the schools must “strictly comply” with the notification.
“The consecration of the idol of Lord Ram will be held on January 22, 2024 at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. In order to allow all citizens to participate in this celebration, the state government has issued a notification and declared Monday to be a half day holiday across all offices and government institutions until 2.30 pm, a copy of which is enclosed below,” it said.
“Therefore, all governments and private primary, secondary and higher secondary schools must strictly comply with the notification of the state government and issue directives accordingly,” the circular added.
Following this, the Vadodara district education officer directed schools in the city to take appropriate steps in this regard. The MS University also declared a holiday on Monday.
The government, meanwhile, said that it has “requested” to keep slaughterhouses closed on January 22, and wrote to local bodies to “ensure” that the same is adhered to.
In a statement, the government said that the department of urban housing and urban development has written to commissioners of municipal corporations and of municipalities, instructing them to “ensure that slaughterhouses remain closed in their respective areas”.
Meanwhile, an advocates’ association claimed on Saturday that the Gujarat High Court will not pass any adverse order if a lawyer in a case remains absent on January 22 on account of the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya.
Lawyers had made a request in this regard to Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal, said president of the Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHCAA), Brijesh Trivedi. The information could not be immediately confirmed officially or from the high court registry.
“We had made a request to the chief justice in writing three days ago that if someone is not present on January 22 on account of the ‘pran pratishtha’ at Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the court should not pass any adverse order against him (litigant represented by absentee lawyer),” Trivedi told mediapersons.
The GHCAA was informed on Saturday that the chief justice had accepted the request, he added.
