PSI PK Padhiyar of Pradhyuman Nagar police station said that since it was dark, Chavda might not have noticed the pit and thus fell face-first into it, leading to several injuries. He was rescued and treated, but was eventually declared dead.

Dr Mahendra Chavda, Resident Medical Officer at the hospital, said, “The patient had been admitted to a ward under the Medicine Department three days ago and was being treated for a stomach ailment. It primarily appears that he crossed the barricades put up at the spot and fell into the pit.”

Police have filed an accidental death report and are investigating into the matter.
