Even though its been over a fortnight that the body of a girl was found from the river bank at Jasapur village in Jasdan taluka on April 2,the identity of the girl is yet to be ascertained. The police still do not have a clue about the reason behind the murder.
On April 12,the body was cremated by a social worker. The Rajkot rural police have now sought help from all police stations across the state as well as the general public to establish her identity.
A digitally enhanced photograph of the girl has been prepared and circulated among all police stations. We have also sought a list of girls aged 17-22 years, who have been reported missing in the state in the last three months, said Jasdan taluka police. The police have also released the photo with an appeal to the people in vernacular to pass on any information about the deceased. The identity of the informer will be kept secret, said the police.
The police said at least 10 parents, whose daughters belonging to the said age group have gone missing, had come to them before the body was cremated. However, none of them could identify her. The police said due to a technical snag at the Rajkot Civil Hospital, the morgue was not functioning properly, which led to the decomposition of the body and the body had to be cremated.
The police said the body, when it was recovered, had a lot of wounds. The upper torso had been spotted by some tourists, while the lower part was underground. Although as many as 18 wounds inflicted by some sharp weapon were found on the body, including four on the face, the clothes were more or less stain free, said the police.
The preliminary investigation had revealed that the girl was murdered somewhere else and the body was dumped on the river bank later. Postmortem had confirmed that the girl was not raped.
Its very important to know her identity to find out the motive of the murder, the police added.
