Three weeks after the death of a top police officers wife due to dengue,Rajkot district collector Rajender Kumar was diagnosed with the infection on Friday. He was admitted to a private hospital in the city.
The collector had a high temperature on Thursday night. Today,his dengue test has come positive. He is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city, resident additional collector Atul Gor said. Officials of N M Virani Wockhardt Hospital,where the collector has been admitted,said his condition was stable. His vital functions are normal and his condition is stable, Ravi Hirvani,centre head of the hospital,said.
The dengue cases in the city have been on the rise for the last one month. According to Rajkot Municipal Corporations health department,109 cases of dengue were reported from the city in August alone. Since January,the city hospitals have recorded 176 cases.
On the other hand,dengue cases have come to light from rural areas as well and the district have registered 95 cases of the vector-borne diseases so far. The occurrence of the disease have been observed more from Kotharia,Shapar-Veraval Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) and Metoda GIDC on the outskirts of the city, said Rajkot district malaria officer Dr Mamta Joshi.
Health officers,however,said no dengue death had been reported from the city or the district till date. Incidentally,IPS officer Rahul Sharmas wife,Sumita,had died due to dengue in Ahmedabad on August 20. Dengue infection is spread by Aedes Eegypti mosquitoes which mostly bite during daytime.
